Advantages of Raw Food Diet
Raw food diet is the latest trend that is being picked up by general public, celebrities, and even athletes. Eating raw foods is a step further than a vegan diet. Think uncooked, unprocessed, mostly organic foods: fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and sprouted grains. Some eat unpasteurized dairy foods, raw eggs, meat, and fish. Food can be cold or even a little bit warm, as long as it doesn’t go above 118 degrees (47° C). One can use a blender, food processor, and dehydrators to prepare meals. Whether eating raw foods is a short lived fashion or a true revolution in our eating habits the advantages of raw food diet can’t be denied.
1. Studies have shown that at the time of eating any processed food at the temperature that is higher than 122 degrees (50° C) our body increases the white blood cell count. The increase of white cells in the blood is generally associated with our body’s immune reaction against a disease. Interestingly, the same experiment showed that the level of white cells, also called nutritional leukocytes, remains the same when raw foods such as vegetables and fruits are being consumed.
2. Another advantage of eating raw food is readily available amino acids. In case of any processed food during the digestion process carbons, protein and fats are getting broken down into amino acids that our cells can absorb. Raw food, however, have the amino acids readily available and our body can save energy. That explains why after having a meal from raw vegetables or fruits we do not experience sudden dip in the energy levels.
3. Not less important is a well known fact that a lot of nutrients, vitamins and enzymes are being destroyed during the food processing. After destroying them in our food during the food processing we then use supplements to balance our diet out. One of the most important substances to our vitality and longevity are enzymes. They are being destroyed at any temperature that is higher than 113 degrees (45° C). The enzymes play a vital role in our metabolism at every level. Our body has a limited amount of enzymes that is getting depleted the longer we live. Getting the enzymes with our food helps our body to retain its vitality and youth for longer. (Not to mention saving the energy and combating the global warming all together).
